Praashekh and Abhishek


Praashekh and Abhishek are the two extremely talented sons of Shekhar Borkar. The older sons unfamiliar name  is a combination from the name of his parents, Shekhar and Pragya. Pragya,is the niece of Bhagwan (Osho) Rajneesh.

The gifted duo, have both been learning the Sarod since the age of seven from their father. While, Praashekh loves to explore and experiment, Abhishek prefers to stick to the traditional norms. Both the brothers are recipients of the C.C.R.T. Scholarship award and also occasionally play for Akashwani, Pune.

Besides, having won several awards and accolades for their duet performances, both of them are equally adept and impressive in their solo recitals.

 

Praashekh,the older of the two has recently been awarded the title of 'Surmani' by the Sur-singar samsad, mumbai for the year 2006. Praashekh is also a Sangeet Alankaar in music. Some of the many wards won by Praashekh includes the 'Dattopant Deshpande' Award at the prestigious Sawai-Gandhrva festival,Pune at the hands of santoor maestro Pt.Shiv Kumar Sharma, Gold medal at the inter-collegiate music fest.

Younger brother Abhishek is not far behind. He is more than eager to prove his mettle to the music world. Both the brothers are to treat to watch when they perform together. They are indeed the torch-bearers of the  'Tarankaar-Baaz' rendition created by their father and Guru, Shekhar Borkar. .


Besides being true to the Indian Traditional form, older brother Praashekh also experiments with world music. He has been composing and fusing his melodies with Western and Arabic forms.
